The Female of this black bodied swallowtail occurs in three different colour forms, one resembling the male and the other two mimicking the 2 red bodied swallowtails, the common rose and the crimson rose. Most common swallowtail butterfly occurs near habitations especially in the gardens and fields cultivated with cur-leaf, orange, lemons etc. It occurs everywhere in open woods and gardens at low elevations. It flies close to the ground around bushes, hedges but does not come to wet places. The male is a swifter flier than the female. It is one of the most interesting butterflies and is an excellent candidate for both field and genetic studies.
